Even though this is an edited broadcast their live voices are audible.

Simply K-Pop is famous for distinguishing live vocals from the backing track. If only paying attention their live, I rank them like this: Sonamoo > GFRIEND >>>> Lovelyz. Do you agree? Sonamoo is average. The ability of GFRIEND's main vocalist is outstanding. Despite the lip syncing, Lovelyz was consistent in their live singing.

7. It's a toss between Sonamoo or GFRIEND...Sonamoo did well but not that particularly good, both seem about the same. For sure, the main vocalist in GFRIEND is very competent. Both did better than Lovelyz because they didn't need much of the backing track...I could hear their voices get shaky.

2015: The Year of Rookie Girl Groups! Red Velvet, Lovelyz, Sonamoo, GFRIEND

1. Red Velvet

SM's rookie girl group quartet. They are following Girls' Generation and F(X). Their visuals and talents seem good. Like the activities of Girls' Generation with "Into The New World," their start was not satisfactory either. It was difficult to recognize the concept of Happiness because it was messy. Then their follow-up song, a remake of SES's "Be Natural," did not get them much progress. The concept was sexy so it was disappointing seeing mature beauty instead of innocent beauty that fit Red Velvet's youth. The members are cute, have nice skills, and if they receive a good song they can become a hit. However, SM's ability to correctly match Red Velvet to the right song and concept to gain success is yet to be determined. SM is also known for being unable to get popularity for their four-member girl groups like MILK and The Grace.

2. Lovelyz

Woollim's first girl group. Being from Infinite's agency, member Yoo Jiae made an early appearance alongside Infinite in their program. Afterward, she had an appearance on Running Man. Due to this it was believed that she would get the most attention on their debut. Instead, Ryu Sujeong and Kei ended up receiving most of the spotlight. Like other groups they debuted with a pure concept. Candy Jelly Love's choreography doesn't really have any specific scenes that are memorable. Their songs are good, but the concept itself, however...I'm not sure if it's adequate enough. Depending on how well they do in their follow up song, opinions on them will continue to vary.

3. Sonamoo

They are group from Secret's and BAP's agency. Based on their first teaser it was expected they would do an innocent concept. However, the twist was that they came out with a hip-hop concept like BAP. Hip-hop girl groups usually don't have big hits. Since they debuted with that type of unfavorable song they are likely to not have one either. I believe innocent and sexy girl groups are the trend right now, and not those with fresh concepts. It's also thought that a few of their male and female fans are unreasonable.

4. GFRIEND

The first and only group created solely by Source Music. Source Music specializes in music production and distribution. Originally they joined with Big Hit to make GLAM, but due to a disgraceful incident they couldn't get ahead. Source Music tried to do things on their own for this girl group. They also have many contacts within the grunge music industry. Despite debuting just yesterday, they already have various activities in their schedule, including Music Bank, SuKiRa, and soon their own reality program will also come out. (Jung Hyung Don, Kan Miyeon, Hong Jinyoung, Orange Caramel, etc. will make special appearances). The debut song itself and their concept are very good. There are some who feel they are like a mixture of different girl groups. It also appears that they have a considerable amount of antis.

2015's Rookie girl groups: Sonamoo VS G-Friend, The A - Z

In 2015 the music industry has brought forth rookie girl groups that have garnered mass interest since the presentation of their debut stages. Last December 29th, TS Entertainment's Sonamoo had a successful and elaborate debut stage. They continued on with music activities, among other things. G-Friend (Yeoja Chingu) will also be debut on the 15th. They are proceeding enthusiastically towards their debut, which will be full of flair, which is sure to increase interest in them. Their debut times are near each other. These two teams will likely be seen as rivals. An in-depth look will be given to each.

Sonamoo is made up of Sumin, Minjae, D.ana, Nahyun, Euijin, High.D, and New Sun. This group of 7 considers itself as one that "brings the breath of life into music." They are strong-willed and ambitious, and aim to spread righteous and empowering messages through their music. Of note is Sonamoo's average height, which is 168 cm, and their average age of 17.7 (18.7 in Korea). They possess powerful visuals, along with their hip-hop tinged debut song Deja Vu. Sonamoo is the girl group whose main point of interest is hip-hop.

G-Friend is a girl group of six that includes Sowon, Eunha, Yuju, Yerin, Umji, and Sinbi.  Their average age is 16.1 (17.1 Korean), and are the youngest girl group in the country based on their birth dates. The team's name 'G-Friend' (girlfriend) presents them as both "sweethearts to men and good friends to women." Everything about them is based on being pleasant girlfriends, exactly as the term is defined. Their aim is "to become close friends with the public by giving them good music that captures their hearts."

◆ "Protector of the Group" - Leaders Sumin VS Sowon

They are both the leader and oldest member in each team. Sonamoo's Sumin was born in 1994 and currently attends Sungshin Women's University, at the Department of Media and Acting. She trained rigorously for four years to improve her skills. Last year she appeared on OCN's drama 'Ghost Seeing Detective, Cheo Yong', where she exhibited her acting talents.

G-Friend's Sowon was born in 1995 and graduated from Hanlim Arts and Entertainment High School, where she also modeled.  She has a voluptuous figure and an exotic appearance, of which were subject of great interest long before her debut. She's a natural born attractive model, who has an excellent fashion walk. Sowon also has great rap skills. Her hobbies include food and movies, something that Sumin has in common with her.

◆ "The youngest ones that you can't resist" - Maknaes New Sun VS Sinbi

Sonamoo's New Sun, born in 1997, is responsible for being the maknae of her team. She is presently enrolled in Hanlim Arts and Entertainment High School. She is also tasked with being the team's star rapper. New Sun writes her own rap lyrics; being one of the youngest among her peers to possess these talents to a high degree.

Sinbi of G-Friend was born in 1998, and is likewise the youngest in her team. Sinbi's resemblance to ex-Girls' Generation member Jessica has garnered her lot of interest. She has an innocent appearance and is recognized for her exceptional dancing skill.

◆ "The talented main vocalists" - Minjae & High.D VS Yuju

Sonamoo's main vocalist is Minjae. She was born in 1994, and like leader Sumin, they have the same age. She attends Myongji University, at the Department of Music. Of all members, her skills specifically include both singing and acting. On the debut album, the song "Everlasting Love" has Minjae bringing forth her bright vocal color successfully. High.D is also one of Sonamoo's main vocalists. She is distinguished for her singing and her outstanding ability to compose her own music. On Secret's "I Would Do Well", she was featured among the talented members in Untouchable's chorus.

G-Friend's Yuju was born in 1997. Her role is being her team's main vocalist. Prior to her debut she was considered as the one with the most vocal training. Her impressive vocal talents are well recognized. Her appearance is very delicate yet her vocals possess a powerful style. She is also a lyricist, composer, and guitar player, among other talents. Their debut song is wrapped under a veil of friendship and female longing, but underneath you should discover talent of a high caliber.

◆ "Schoolmates of the same age" - Euijin VS Yerin

Sonamoo's Euijin and G-Friend's Yerin are both born in 1996. They also attend the same school, Seoul High School of Arts. Of special interest is that Yerin is a best friend of APink's Oh Hayoung, which made headlines when both were seen together. Euijin attracts attention from her supple movements and flexibility that combine together in her impressive dancing talents. Euijin and Yerin, both being of the same age, will have an ongoing competition with each other.

◆  "Versatile entertainers" - Nahyun & D.ana VS Eunha & Umji

Nahyun of Sonamoo was born in 1995 and is presently attending Konkuk University of Arts and Motion Pictures. Nahyun previously debuted in a drama and music video, being proficient enough to be casted on them. D.ana attends Dongduk Women's University, where she takes broadcasting courses along with her regular studies. Her deep voice is charming and its bass gives her rap greater power. Combined with their intense dancing skills, they are both highly versatile entertainers.

G-Friend's Eunha, born in 1997, started out as a child actress, adding another element to her varied talents.  Within the team she serves as a skilled vocalist who is a remarkable jack-of-all-trades. Umji is part of the maknae line and was born in 1998 like Sinbi. She has a cute appearance and is naturally gifted; she is distinguished for her foreign language skills.

In like manner, the members of Sonamoo and G-Friend have positions and specialties that match each other, setting them as natural rivals. Right after the start of 2015, we will witness these ambitious and versatile talents from both teams taking on the music industry as rising stars. As to what will be the result, it is yet to be seen. Due to both of them debuting around the same time and sharing similar concepts, they will unfortunately be regarded as rivals, no matter how well-intention the competition will be. We hope to see both grow and bloom as time goes on.

In 2015, EXID, Lovelyz, and Sonamoo grab the attention of the music industry

In 2014 there were many girl groups that caught the attention of the public. These girl groups not only captivated, but also became established trends in entertainment, such as Girl's Day. From Mr. Chu to LUV, APink was able to win over 19 trophies. As in the previous year, 2015 looks to be a bright one for girl groups. The following are the TOP 3 that are must watch for this year.

TOP 1. EXID

This group has been recently benefiting from the boon of 'Up & Down'. Many people have mistaken EXID for a new girl group with a hit debut track. However, the group actually debuted on February 2012, in M Countdown with the song 'Whoz That Girl'. They originally debuted as a six member group, until April 2012, when the group underwent a change and new members Solji and Hyerin joined to replace three members to become a group of five.

In August 2014 EXID released their third single, 'Up & Down', which dropped out of most music charts within 3 to 4 days. As a rookie group they faced many difficulties. Like many others, they may have remained buried in obscurity.

However, unlike other girl groups they had help from 'the hand of god'. A fan took a video of the member Hani performing. It was posted on SNS where it spread widely, receiving many good reviews. After this turn of events, the song was able to re-enter the charts again after 3 months of inactivity. They were all surprised at the reversal of fortune that was happening right before their eyes.

Getting particular attention are Hani's glamorous body movements of her 'pelvis dance', which quickly gained notoriety for its sexiness. Backed by increasing popularity, EXID was able to do the unexpected and return to public broadcast music programs. The pelvis dance, or actually a watered down version of the original, is now able to be seen widely by the public who are excited by it. Sexy girl groups continue having a significant following in the country.

TOP 2. Lovelyz

The debut of Lovelyz was not initially favorable. Prior to the debut itself, there were malicious accusations against member Seo Jisoo. Eventually the group, now with seven members, was able to go on stage. At that time there was strong criticism from the public and allegation of the controversy being 'noise marketing' using Seo Jisoo. In the end, the group was able to present a fresh concept with school girl looks, which gained them positive attention from the public.

The refreshing sensibility of the girls also appealed to Japanese record companies who began to observe Lovelyz's domestic debut as it also became a hit abroad; making it to the top of the Japanese Tower Records chart. Their title track, Candy Jelly Love, was just released 2 weeks prior, yet they were already gaining unexpected popularity overseas without doing any promotions outside of the country.

Lovelyz did not only have success in Japan, they were also able to reach #9 in Taiwan's 5 Music Weekly Chart of Korean and Japanese albums (November 14 – 20), signaling a hot reaction in Asia. Lovelyz received love calls from music and media companies abroad. They revealed their aspirations to be like their role model Girls' Generation. For Lovelyz, 2015 is shaping up to be a year of increasing interest from the public.

TOP 3. Sonamoo

The mean height of Sonamoo members is 168 cm and their average age is 17.7 (18.7 Korean age). The group's advantages are its strong visuals and energetic hip-hop beat which is hardly seen in the industry. These young women, who have a powerful group dance, are full of charisma during their performances. After Sonamoo's showcase, they became the #1 hot topic in large portal sites and real-time search rankings.

Sonamoo's music video 'Deja Vu' was able to reach the number 1 spot of Korean videos in China's largest video site, YinYueTai, which gave them even greater exposure. Within five days of release, the music video Deja Vu had over 2 million views (Youtube, YinYueTai combined). This year they will receive attention as rising stars who display swagger.

One question that is often heard is about the name of the group itself, Sonamoo (pine in Korean). When asked about it the group explains, "a pine is always fresh and firm, which is how we want our music to be". They want to obtain success by bringing something new to K-POP, conveying the image that they will be fresh and bright, so incorporating the name 'pine' fits the group.
